This marks a shift from the current acceptance of PDF invoices as e-invoices. From 2024, companies must use a qualified electronic signature for their PDF or XML invoices to be legally recognized.

A qualified electronic signature is created by a private, accredited entity. It serves to verify the identity of the company issuing a signed document, ensuring authenticity and integrity. This new requirement emphasizes the importance of secure and verified digital transactions in Portugal's business environment.
